The Omarzay Story
The Omarzay family’s business story is deeply rooted in Afghanistan.
Haji Painda Mohammad Khan Omarzay
Born in 1898, he became a successful trader, conducting business between cities across Afghanistan. His entrepreneurial journey later extended into agriculture and land development.
In 1938, he acquired approximately 10,000 acres of land in Deh Sabz, northeast of Kabul. He established a large residence on the land and developed agricultural activities across the surrounding area, cultivating fruits and vegetables that were traded throughout Afghanistan.
Abdul Basir Omarzay
Born in Kabul in 1944, he followed in his father’s footsteps and expanded the family’s entrepreneurial activities. After beginning with the trade of agricultural products, he founded Omarzay Company Limited in 1968.
Under his leadership, the company’s activities expanded beyond Afghanistan into international markets, with involvement in the import and export of agricultural products, medical herbs, dry foods, Afghan rugs, textiles, wool, building materials, machinery and other goods.
